Class A

In case of ordinary combustibles such as paper, wood, textiles, rubber etc., cooling with water is the most effective way of distinguishing a class A of fire. Use water foam or water based liquids.’

Class B

In case of fires of vapour, gasoline, oil, grease, paint, sol vent, etc. the best
extinguishing agents are dry chemicals, carbon dioxide and / or foam (water can be only used as a spray or mist). In most cases using water to fight a class B fire will only result in spreading the fire

Class C

In case of electric fires (fires caused by electricity) water must not be used as an
extinguishing agent as this may give rise to the danger of electrocution. Carbon
dioxide or dry chemicals are the best extinguishing agents.
